In 2016, ImagingWest was disbanded and staff who had provided ad hoc assistance to DIP were re-deployed to other areas of HDWA. The DIP Manager accepted redundancy.
In 2018 the DIP Editor (Richard Mendelson) retired and the role passed to Ravinder Dhillon. She had been the inaugural DIP Research Registrar, and by this time was a full-time public sector radiologist.
The HDWA continued to fund the Research Registrar until 2019. Approved materials were now submitted to Information Technologists (particularly Robert Long) previously employed by ImagingWest but now dispersed to other areas of the HDWA, for upload to the DIP website.
In 2019, the DIP Editor, with support from Kieran Kursel (the last Research Registrar), Mike Bynevelt (Radiologist), RIchard Fox (Physicist) and Rosalyn Francis (Radiologist), unsuccessfully sought funds from RPH, HDWA and the Commonwealth Department of Health.
Commencing in 2012, support for the DIP Editor was reduced and then eliminated. In 2020 the HDWA withdrew the last funding by abolishing the Research Registrar position.
Although the content of DIP could not be reviewed and updated as frequently as required, in 2020 and 2021 Kieran Kursel collaborated with the Editor in supervising various junior doctors who volunteered to carry out work previously done by the Research Registrar.
In 2021, as the requirement to review and update the pathways increased, the HDWA indicated an intention to decommission the DIP website. As an alternative, the Editor steered efforts to identify an entity willing to accept ownership of DIP and support its maintenance and development. On 12 April 2022, the HDWA assigned the DIP intellectual property to RAB.
On accepting the role of Editor, Ravinder Dhillon did not have the benefit of an Executive Sponsor or support via a DIP Manager, and residual funding was reduced then eliminated. Her dedication and effort in maintaining and updating DIP under such circumstances, and in steering the change in ownership was exceptional.
